This toy soldier nostalgic collage is titled, “Standoff”. This work is composed of 455 toy soldiers facing off in an never ending conflict perched atop the Yin/Yang symbol. In ancient Chinese philosophy the Yin/Yang symbol is is a concept of dualism, describing how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world. This is my most recent work inspired by the world events of 2020 where our society is polarized by quarantine and race. This depiction using toy soldiers is meant to show the futility and irony of the cultural and economic divides that would undermine our common good. The Ying/Yang halves are carved by laser and each piece is hand painted and positioned to create a symmetrical pattern that draws the work together. This piece is not sealed in resin and does not ship easily. Although I can ship domestically I prefer that this work be hand delivered or picked up at my Baltimore or Rehoboth Beach Gallery. Each work of art is handcrafted and, although they may appear similar, no two works are exactly alike making each a unique statement for your surroundings.
